Peter and Katharine Watts are freelance professional musicians based in Howick, Auckland , with wide experience and a creative approach to performance. Music, and especially music for the voice, has been their passion and the driving force of their twin careers. For Peter this has meant drawing others to join in the riches of choral singing, through his involvement with Auckland Choral, the New Zealand National Youth Choir, small chamber choirs and many community choirs. His conducting includes orchestral work with Auckland Philharmonia, St Matthew's Chamber Orchestra, Pipers Sinfonia and Manukau City Symphony Orchestra. His love of the piano and chamber music has also meant a huge enjoyment of accompanying. For Katharine it has been a fascination with the intricacies of the solo voice, plus the special delight of sharing this pleasure in ensembles such as the Dorian Choir, the Orlando Singers and Calico Jam. In the choral field, she also particularly enjoys singing oratorio. Her solo repertoire ranges from mediaeval to contemporary song.
Creating Together
Together they have devised countless creative projects, ranging from recordings of lullabies for new babies, and Bandwagon concerts in schools, to chamber music collaborations with string quartet or jazz ensemble. An enduring passion has been the presentation of innovative and unusual song programmes which have delighted audiences throughout New Zealand.
